Goodlife! Makan
Singapore
GoodLife ! Makan is a pioneering community kitchen and senior activity hub by Montfort Care, located at Block 52, Marine Terrace, Singapore. This open space puts cooking, dining, and socializing at its heart to engage stay-alone seniors through shared food experiences. Seniors from the local community come here, volunteer to cook for each other, and enjoy diverse dishes that reflect Singapore's unique population. Seniors voluntarily plan, prepare, serve, and clean up together—transforming from care recipients into empowered contributors with renewed purpose and connection.
In 2025, I led a cooking session at Goodlife! Makan, where I showed twenty-four seniors how to make traditional ragù alla bolognese and fresh pasta. You can check out the recipe here on the nostalgic nibbles cookbook!

Meals on Wheels
Singapore
To many foreigners, Singapore might seem like a country that has solved its problems and figured stuff out. Unfortunately, however, my country is home to some 79,000 seniors who live alone with no one to take care of them. Many of these seniors have low mobility and struggle to do day-to-day household tasks and chores.
Since 2023, I have been volunteering with Meals on Wheels at TOUCH. This organization relies on volunteers to deliver free soup-kitchen meals to seniors residing alone in apartment blocks. For many seniors, this is their only source of food.
Working with TOUCH is very rewarding; despite the hassle of packing and delivering meals, everything is worth it when you see a senior open his door and smile.

Hebrew Senior Life
Brookline, MA
Hebrew Senior Life (HSL) is an organization that runs senior care homes across the New England area. Affiliated with the Harvard Medical School, HSL is a national leader in aging research, and they run care homes where all seniors can age comfortably. Rooted in the Jewish tradition of caring for seniors, Hebrew Senior Life provides healthcare, housing, and wellness services for seniors of all faiths, income levels, and backgrounds
Over the 2024 summer, I volunteered in various activities at the Hebrew Senior Life aging home in Brookline, Massachussets. I participated in intergenerational discussions with seniors, as well as volunteer teens from around the world. I also cooked a meal for Mr. Harry Fung Ng, a senior resident. I served him his favorite fresh seared scallops: if you would like to see this recipe, check it out from the Nostalgic Nibbles cookbook!
